Sunshine YCW Football Club is registered with the YCW Football Association playing in an Under 18 competition
1945
From 1945 to 1959 the club was in recess
1959
Sunshine Council allocates Barclay Reserve, Albion, to Sunshine YCW. An Under 16 team is entered in the YCW competition coached by Bill O’Keefe.
1962
Sunshine YCW moves to Kinder Smith Reserve, Braybrook
1963
Sunshine YCW enters it’s first Open Age team in the YCW competition. Trevor Corcoran is appointed the club’s first Open Age coach.
1964
The Under 17 team coached by Dick Hume, win the club’s first premiership in the YCW competition.
1966
Seniors win the B Grade premiership, the first open age team to win a premiership.
1967
The first Annual Report is prepared by Secretary Peter Evans.
Expenditure for the season was $1,388.61 and Revenue was $1,564.09
1968
The Under 18’s became the first Sunshine YCW team to go through the season undefeated. The club enters a Reserves team for the first time.
1969
The seniors, coached by Herbie Doyle scrap into the finals by 0.4% and win the B Grade premiership. Ned Brewis coaches the Under 18’s to successive premierships.
1970
On the day the West Gate Bridge collapses in October, the club rooms are destroyed by fire.
1971
Terry County becomes the first player to reach 200 games
1973
The “Tin Shed” is erected by the committee on Good Friday and will serve as changing and social rooms for the next two years.
1975
The Ramon Vila Pavilion is completed. Under 13 and Under 11 teams are entered in the Footscray District Football League for the first time.
Peter Evans is awarded Life Membership of the YCWNFA
1976
Sunshine YCW wins the YCWNFA “A Grade” Premiership for the first time.
1977
The Under 13 team coached by Lee Schwartz win the club’s first premiership in the Footscray District Football League.
1978
All Sunshine YCW teams are entered in the Footscray District Football League but retain the name Sunshine YCW. Seniors play their first game at home against North Footscray and lose 17.12.114 to Sunshine YCW 11.6.72
1982
Michael Huxtable becomes the first player to play 300 games
1993
Sunshine Spurs entered a team in the Victorian Womens Football League using Kinder Smith Reserve as it’s base. The seniors finish last in Division 1 and are relegated to Division 2 for the next two years.
1996
The Foostcray District Football League ask the club to replace Braybrook in Division 1, four weeks before the start of the season.
Marge Laffin becomes the first member of Sunshine YCW to be made a Life member of the Footscray District Football League.
2001
The club plays its first season as Sunshine Football Club having dropped the YCW from its name at the end of the 2000 season.
2004
Marge Laffin named Western Region Football League Personality of the Year
2006
Under 14’ and Under 12’s both win premierships.
Darren Green becomes the first player to reach 400 games
2007
Russell Douglas wins the Division 1 Best and Fairest thereby becoming the clubs first Barry Priest Medallist.
2008
The Reserves win the Division 1 Premiership defeating Spotswood in the Grand Final. Spotswood had not lost a game all year.
2011
The Reserves win the Division 1 Premiership defeating Hoppers Crossing by 3 points with a goal kicked after the final siren by Captain Andrew Thorn.
2015
Under 13’s win the Premiership
2017
The Seniors lose thrilling grand final by 3 points to a star studded Deer Park team in front of thousands at Whitten Oval in a game where they were given no chance
2023
Under 14’s win Division 4 Premiership
Netball wins Division 4 Premiership
2024
A history making year, Sunshine wins three premierships.
